Roof snow removal is one dreaded chore of every homeowner. It takes some muscle on your part and exposes to risks of accidents and injury. Knowing the type of roof that you have will go a long way in evaluating the removal techniques to use and the urgency to do the job.
For instance, flat roofs are prone to accumulating more snow than sloping ones so for the latter, there is less reason to worry. You only have to clear the lower edge of the roof to clear any blockages and allow the snow to melt down. Laying down heating cables will also help you do the job faster with lesser chances of damaging your roof by manually shoveling the snow off it.
On the other hand, in letting the ice sit on your roof, you are not only opening your home up to water damage; you are also allowing the snow loads to weigh down on your roof. Depending on your type of roof and the structural design of your house, it may not hold up to the burden.
If you are physically unable to perform the task of de-icing your roof, contact your roof contractor as soon as possible to schedule for it because during snow seasons, many other homeowners will be needing their services as well.
